Henry, Oliver and Harry inspired East Wales to a team cross-country gold medal.

Three Monmouth students inspired East Wales to a gold medal at the 20th Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships in Llandrindod Wells.

Monmouth School for Boys’ trio Oliver, Harry and Henry helped the East Wales Under-13B team to top spot.

Oliver took the plaudits for Monmouth, finishing an impressive sixth position in the under-13 boys’ race as he completed the 2,240m course in 8:14.

Oliver, who was just 13 seconds adrift of the race winner, was backed up by Harry, who was 13th in 8:28, and Henry, who was 17th in 8:35.

The Monmouth trio were also the third, fifth and sixth placed athletes who represented East Wales on a memorable day.

Henry carried on the excellent form which saw him secure third place – out of 75 starters – in the recent Gwent League Under-13 Boys’ race at Bryn Bach Park in Tredegar.

Year 10 pupil, Josh, ran in the Under-15B section at Llandrindod, coming 17th in the race and was the third finisher from East Wales.

It was also a good day for Monmouth School for Girls’ multi-event athlete, Antonia, who continued her comeback after injury with 24th place in the under-15 girls’ event.

Antonia, a talented sprinter, suffered an Achilles injury at the end of the summer.

She raced in Mid Wales as part of her strength and conditioning work and was the third East Wales runner home.
