Former students flock to alumni carol service in London

More than 130 people flocked to the second annual Joint Alumni Service of Lessons and Carols in the City of London.

The ages of people who attended the service, for former students at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools at St Lawrence Jewry next Guildhall, ranged from 18 to 88 years.

Monmouth School for Girls’ Chamber Choir shone with Mariä Wiegenlied (Reger, arr Beckers); Torches (Joubert), The Wexford Carol (Irish traditional, arr Parry) and The Holly and the Ivy (Gardner).

The hymns included O Little Town of BethlehemO Come, All Ye Faithful; Hark! The Herald Angels SingOnce in Royal David’s City, and O Come O Come, Emmanuel.

Readings were given by Mrs Olwen Davis, Acting Deputy Head at Monmouth School for Girls; pupils Charlotte and Lisa; Old Monmothian, Ryan Turner; Richard Booth QC, Trustee at Monmouth Schools’ Charitable Trust, and Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools Chaplain, Reverend Clifford Swartz.

The evening, on Wednesday 5th December, was a resounding success with pupils, staff and former students already looking forward to next year’s service.
