A 20-goal haul from striker Henry capped a memorable football season for a success-laden Monmouth team who finished top of the national rankings.

Hugo snapped up 17 goals and Shemar netted 12 times as Monmouth School for Boys’ Under-14 A team took top spot for their age section – out of 117 schools – in the SchoolsSports.com Performance League.

The in-form Monmouth team achieved an outstanding 100 per cent winning record after notching 14 straight victories.

Coached by Mr Rob Picken, the team racked up 54 goals and conceded only 12 to finish above Harrow School and Repton School in the national league of schools from all over the UK.

The team’s biggest winning margin was a 9-0 success against Rougemont School, while they sealed a 5-1 victory against Wycliffe College and enjoyed triumphs against the football academies at Newport County, Hereford FC and Merthyr Town.

“It was an amazing season for the team,” said Mr Mark Tamplin, Master in Charge of Football at Monmouth School for Boys.

“The boys gelled together as a team and worked hard for each other. To win all 14 games and to finish top of the national rankings is something that the boys will cherish for a long time.”

Last year, the under-15 A team finished runners-up out of 102 independent schools and the under-14 A team were eighth out of 122 schools.
