A team of eight 4th and 5th Form cadets will compete in The National Cadets Indoor Climbing Championships at Boulders Climbing Centre, Cardiff, this coming Saturday. Last year the competition involved a long drive up to Anglesey where the competition involved team and individual bouldering as well as speed climbing and technical climbing with routes getting progressively harder. The final was extremely demanding, very technical and only completed by two senior competitors. The bouldering involved a long traverse with some sections overhanging.
With a team, all relatively new to climbing, and with limited preparation time, I feel we have made good progress and we hope to return with some medals; the junior team speed-climb possibly being our strongest event. Our training sessions at Boulders and Llangorse Outdoor Centre have been really enjoyable and helped us to build up some strength as well as improve our technique. We are all positive and hope to improve upon last year’s performance.
