EAL trip to Big Pit

May 15, 2017

Form III and IV EAL students explored some Welsh History on Sunday by visiting the Big Pit Museum in Blaenavon. The guide leading the trip was a former miner, and entertained the students with a wealth of stories and knowledge. As part of the tour we switched off our head lamps to experience the total darkness of the Big Pit, and tried to imagine the conditions for the first miners and their children, who would also have worked down the mine. We explored the mine for about an hour, then headed to the rest of the exhibitions on site. The students were impressed by the beautiful scenery and views from the top of the Blorenge mountain, and agreed that the day had been a great way to practise using English outside the classroom.
