Debating duo make history in national competition

December 12, 2014

Quick-thinking and talented pupils made history by becoming the first Monmouth School team to win the Welsh Schools Debating Championships.

The tense finals, held recently at the Temple of Peace, Cardiff, saw our Senior Team of Jamie and Chris, both of VI.2, emerge victorious against their opponents from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Carmarthenshire.

Opposing the motion, This House Would Put ‘British Boots on the Ground’ to Defeat the Islamic State in Iraq, Jamie and Chris produced a brilliant display of sustained skills to win the debate and the coveted title itself.

They are now Champions of Wales – a feat never before achieved by a Monmouth School team.

This is a deserved achievement as they were, without doubt, the most accomplished team in the competition.

Jamie and Chris will now go on to represent Wales in the Mace International Schools Debating Championships, to be held next year.
