Cricketers quiz former England head coach, Andy Flower

February 26, 2021

Cricketers at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools enjoyed a fascinating insight into the sport from one of the world’s greatest players and elite coaches.

Former England head coach and current T20 franchise coach, Andy Flower, spoke to around 80 students and staff live from Pakistan, where he is currently coaching the Multan Sultans, on Thursday 25th February.

Mr Flower, regarded as Zimbabwe’s finest batsman, shared excellent advice and stories from his time as a player, his successful role with England, and what he is currently learning from coaching in some of the world’s leading limited-overs leagues.

During his spell as England head coach, Mr Flower led England’s Test side to No 1 in the world, victory at the 2010 World Twenty20 and three Ashes series triumphs.

The Monmouth pupils put forward some brilliant questions to Mr Flower, who was appointed OBE for services to sport in the 2011 and left the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2019 after 12 years.

The virtual question-and-answer evening followed a similar session with Glamorgan head coach, Matthew Maynard, and was part of a series of online events that the sports department has run this term alongside online learning provision.

The schools thank Mr Steve James, Mr Callum Bassett-Jones and Mr Andy Jones for organising such wonderful opportunities for the students.
