Cricket News – Another ton for Hywel on winning weekend

June 23, 2016

CricketDespite the terrible weather and thanks to the excellent work of the ground staff 7  matches took place against Sir Thomas Rich’s on Saturday. The 1st XI were at home and batted first on a wet wicket. An excellent century from skipper Hywel (his second of the season) as well as excellent support from Matt enabled us to post a challenging target of 196 off 40 overs. ‘Tommies’ started well and at drinks were in a good position requiring 100 runs off 20 overs with 7 wickets in hand; however, and excellent spell of bowling by Lewis where he took 5 wickets in 11 balls (finishing with 6-36) saw the 1st XI home by 70 runs. The U.14a team won a good game by 5 wickets thanks to a good partnership between Will and Raph. The U.14b lost a close game at home. Chasing 90 they fell 15 runs short. The 13a team won by 30 runs in a tough game. Harry scored quickly at the end to set a total of 130. In reply Michael bowled beautifully taking 3 wickets. The U.13b team had the most exciting match of the day. Tommies needed two to win off the last ball, and with a scrambled two just got over the line to win the game. The U.12a team bowled first at home, and thanks to an excellent 5 wicket hall from George dismissed the opposition for 90. In reply the boys batted sensibly and won by 9 wickets with Hugo 50 not out and Ed 30 not out. The U.12b team were also chasing 90, and managed to get over the line by 4 wickets, in a game where every boy bowled or batted.
