Cranmer award for Dylan as joint schools impress

November 17, 2016

dylanowencranmerawardsipJust before the half term break, two Form IV boys and several HMSG girls took part in the ‘Cranmer Awards’ sponsored by the Prayer Book Society. Meeting in the august surroundings of College Hall at Hereford Cathedral, forty competitors read selections from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and were judged on good diction for reading in church. The Elizabethan language of the Prayer Book is filled with evocative but sometimes difficult language, and the Haberdashers’ Monmouth school representatives carried themselves very well indeed.

Congratulations to all who took part and particularly to Dylan (Form IV), who won the senior category reading the Collect and Appointed Lessons for St Andrew’s Day, and so will advance to the National Final, in the impressive setting of the Old Palace at Worcester Cathedral, on 25th February.

He is pictured with governor Noel Mann (OM) who helped to organise the competition and has a leadership role in both the Prayer Book Society and Hereford Cathedral.
