Golf

Monmouth School for Boys has an established reputation for helping to produce high quality golfers. All junior members of the school have the opportunity to receive coaching from Mr Simon Aston, a PGA professional based at the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club.

These lessons take place both on the games fields and out at the golf club and are offered after school during the first half of the Michaelmas term and during the Summer term. Senior pupils in Years in 11-13 have the opportunity to participate in golf as their games activities. However, to do this they must have a recognised CONGO handicap. We are very fortunate in that the school has membership of the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club so on Tuesdays and Thursdays we go there to play our home matches, practice and to receive coaching. (there is a small charge for membership and the coaching is subsidised). Junior members of the school can play team matches if their handicap is low enough and their school work is not cause for concern.

The school plays in national golf competitions run by the ISGA and the HMC. We are also fortunate enough to play in the West of England Public Schools’ invitational championships, a 2 day competition over the famous links course at Burnham and Berrow. There are also a number of “friendly” matches and more competitive fixtures for example against Marlborough School where we play home and away on alternate years for the Lane Trophy.
