Welcome to the new term and the return of face-to-face lessons. It is even more important than usual that everyone brings essential equipment to music lessons: rosin, music, notebook and pencil should all be kept together in the instrument case or music bag. Teachers will communicate through Teams, and timetables will be displayed in the Music School as usual. Remember to ask permission to attend your lesson from the relevant member of staff in advance.
Ensembles will be smaller than normal in order to remain within our bubbles. We expect you to attend the rehearsal for your year group even if you normally play in a different ensemble.
- 6th Form ‘Corona Strings’: Mondays, 16.20 in the PAC, starting on September 28.
- Bach Orchestra: Mondays at 14.00 as follows: Y7 – Monday 9th, Yr 8—Monday 16th, Yr 9 Monday 23rd (November)
Other dates for your diary:
- November 12th: George Shuffrey String Competition (webcast).
- November 26th: Charity Concert (webcast).
More details about these events will follow shortly. For more information about anything string-related please contact Mrs Greenwood or Mr Lawson.
At MBP the year 5 and 6 year group String Ensembles rehearse every week on a Tuesday and are preparing music to record at the end of term Christmas Tree event. We are in the early stages of setting up a year 4 string ensemble to rehearse every Tuesday.
In the Winds
Welcome back to a Michaelmas Term that is very different from our usual routine. Because of the Covid-19 situation we are unable to have our usual ensemble rehearsals all together. However, we are able to run small year group sectionals in line with government guidance. A Teams page has been set up for each ensemble where you will find copies of the music to be practising in the meantime, in preparation for a ‘virtual’ concert of some kind in November. Please ensure you have accessed Teams for the relevant music and for information on when a year group ensemble will take place.
Jazz Orchestra is meeting as a Yr 10 bubble at the moment in the normal Thursday time. See Mr. Hathaway for more details.
Brass Band will not meet this term, though we hope it will start again after Christmas.

Corona Virus has affected everything we do, as it means the bubbles need to be kept separate. For that reason Choral Society will not, unfortunately, take place until further notice. The Chapel Choir is currently rehearsing in bubbles, with Yr 7 Trebles on Tuesday mornings, Yr 8 Trebles on Wednesday mornings and Lower Voices on a Thursday lunchtime rota. The key here is listening to assembly announcements and reading notice boards!!! I hope we’ll be able to record something for webcast at Christmas; due to the Welsh Firebreak it wasn’t possible to do this for Remembrance.
At MBP Year 6 Choir is now meeting every Thursday after school and Year 5 Choir and Musicianship on Wednesday lunchtimes. There is also a Gold Level Musicianship group for boys in year 6 meeting on Thursday lunchtimes. All the choirs are recording music to perform and record around the Christmas Tree in December.
