Athlete Harry storms to two Welsh indoor titles

Harry has climbed to the top of the UK rankings for his age group.

A 12-year-old runner from Monmouth has stormed to two gold medals at the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

Harry, a pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, hit top form to win the Under-13 Boys’ 1,500m and 800m titles at the National Indoor Athletics Centre on 2nd and 3rd February.

Harry smashed his personal best by a remarkable 12 seconds in the 1,500m final to soar to the top of the Welsh and UK rankings.

The Year 7 pupil clocked an outstanding 4:57.77 to become the first under-13 boy this season to go under five minutes in the UK for the 1,500m.

And Harry, who represents Newport Harriers, followed it up in spectacular fashion in the 800m where he captured his second Welsh indoor title of the weekend in a personal best of 2:28.99

There was also success for 12-year-old Henry, a fellow pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, who won a bronze medal in the Under-15 Boys’ 3,000m.

Henry, who  also represents Newport Harriers, took third place in 10:41.39 after 15 gruelling laps of the indoor 200m track.

The youngster also raced in the Under-15 Boys’ 1,500m and eclipsed five minutes for the first time, coming home in 4:59.21.

A third athlete at Monmouth School for Boys gained valuable experience in the Under-15 Boys’ 60m, pole vault and 200m.

Twelve-year-old Aharon, who represents Cardiff Amateur Athletic Club, ran a speedy 60m in a new personal best of 8.7 and posted a time of 29.32 in his heat of the 200m.
