January 12, 2016

Alex CCFCongratulations to Alex, a member of Monmouth School’s Combined Cadet Force, as he has been selected to participate in ‘Exercise Kwazulu – Natal Venturer 2016’.

This is an exercise that was initially open to applications from cadets from all over the UK and Alex was one of 16 Cadets selected following the build-up period for this exercise, during which he, and the other cadets, have had to participate in two selection weekends and two mandatory training weekends.

The aim of the exercise is to undertake quality adventurous training in mountain walking, kayaking and bush walking and to undertake an environmental project linked with rhino conservation.

The main activity which Alex will be undertaking in his group is a 5 day unsupported trek in the Southern Drackensburg, following the plateau edge. The trip will involve camping overnight in caves and tents at altitudes of up to 3000m. He will also have to ascend several peaks including Devil’s Knuckles (3,050m), Wilson’s Peak (3,255m) and Rhino Peak (3,056m).

Congratulations to Alex, and to the staff of the Monmouth School CCF for supporting him.
