Advent service a fitting start to Monmouth’s Christmas

The Chapel Choir rouse themselves for rehearsals!

Advent Sunday heralds one of the finest chapel services of the year. Open to all, the congregation flock to sing some of the most impassioned tunes in the hymn book. Though the notes accompanying the words Let all mortal flesh keep silence may resound over the thunderous organ, said exhortation is strictly disobeyed.  As ever, the service was brought to life by the performance of the Chapel Choir. The five part harmony of Tallis and dissonance of Villette made for both more musically and more culturally diverse worship. Afterwards, mulled wine and mince pies were enjoyed to the sound of the Bach Orchestra.

Congregation and choristers alike now look forward to the Service of Lessons and Carols, which marks the end of term: Good King Wenceslas looks to be a highlight.
