A strong second-half performance powered Monmouth School for Boys’ 1st XV to a comprehensive 43-10 victory against Malvern College in the Border Shield.
Oliver (2), Finlay (2), Guy and Noah scored tries for Monmouth, while Jack Woods slotted five conversions and a penalty in Friday’s win under lights at Ledbury Rugby Club.
Monmouth battled to a 7-0 lead at the interval and swept to victory, with Malvern’s full-back red-carded for a high tackle late in the match.
It was a pleasing triumph for Monmouth, who retained the title for a second year, following a hard-fought 24-10 success in 2021.
The 1st XV captain Oscar received the trophy and Master in Charge of Rugby Coaching, Mr Paul Morris, was delighted with Monmouth’s impressive display.
