Antonia storms to first Welsh athletics title

July 10, 2018

Antonia Dawes is a Welsh champion.

A Monmouth School for Girls’ athlete has stormed to victory at the Welsh Schools championships in Cardiff.

Antonia is the new Junior Girls’ 300 metres champion after her outstanding run in the 2018 Welsh Schools Athletic Association Track & Field Outdoor Championships last Saturday (7th July).

Antonia has risen to first place in the Under-15 girls’ Welsh 300m rankings after her triumphant run in 42.06s – 1.23 seconds quicker than her previous best.

The teenager represented the South East Wales Schools District at the Cardiff International Sports Campus Stadium in Leckwith.

Antonia returns to action this Saturday (14th July) at the same track in the Under-15 Girls’ 300m event in the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships.

It promises to be a busy summer for the Newport Harriers’ ace.

Antonia has also met the minimum qualification times for August’s English Athletics Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the Under-15 Girls’ 200m and 300m and Under-17 women’s 300m hurdles.

However, Antonia has yet to choose between entering the English or the Welsh Athletics Inter-regional Championships taking place on the same weekend.
