An inspirational yachtswoman is visiting Monmouth School for Girls next week.

Nikki Henderson, the youngest skipper ever to complete the Clipper round-the-world race, is delivering an evening lecture, called Life on the Lean, on Wednesday 13th March from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Since 2006, Nikki has sailed more than 40,000 miles during which she has skippered three ARC races across the Atlantic (twice winning the Youngest Skipper Award), the Caribbean 600 – an inshore race circuit, two Cowes Weeks, co-skippered two Fastnet campaigns and sailed over 10,000 miles in offshore deliveries.

As an RYA instructor for over three years, she has already taught over 200 students and also launched a Sailing and Watersports centre in Denver, Colorado.

Nikki returned to dock in Liverpool July last year, 11 months after setting out on the gruelling 40,000-nautical-mile sailing competition around the world.

She finished second in the Clipper 2017-18 Race to Australian Wendy Tuck, 53. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the co-founder of the Clipper Race, praised both women, adding that to have two females in first and second place made it an “historic” and “brilliant” finish.

Nikki described the result as “pretty hard to believe”, adding: “I definitely didn’t go out to have an easy ride, I went out wanting to do well, but I didn’t actually think [coming second] would be possible. I am overwhelmed.”
