The Governors of the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are committed to broadening access to the schools by offering to eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with payment of school fees. Such support is known as a Bursary and these may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% on tuition fees, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of the applicants, including the number of children in the family. Pupils holding bursaries may also be given help with travel and other expenses.
Requests for financial support usually fall into two categories:
- Existing pupils where a change in parents/guardians’ circumstances has resulted in difficulty in meeting tuition fees and may result in the child being withdrawn part way through a stage of education.
- New applicants to the school, where parents/guardians are unable to fund all or part of the tuition fees. In order to be considered for assistance, application forms must be completed prior to assessment.
A Bursary may be applied for by parents who feel they are unable to accept or retain a place without financial help. All awards are subject to a review each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on family circumstances. Financial support may be made available to parents/guardians of children entering Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.
Bursaries are not normally available for pupils at the prep schools or pre-prep. Parents/guardians seeking financial assistance are required to complete an application form which seeks to establish the financial circumstances of the household. The form, which requests details of income and capital, must be accompanied by full documentary evidence. Each case is assessed on its own merits and awards are made accordingly at the discretion of the Headmaster of Monmouth School for Boys or Headmistress of Monmouth School for Girls, subject to the school’s ability to fund these in the context of what is viable within its overall budget.
The schools respect the confidentiality of Bursary awards made to families and recipients are expected to do likewise.
West Wales Bursary
We are introducing a new means-tested bursary, which offers west Wales families a discount of up to 25% off fees.
The schools are also launching a new transport service for their boarding children from west Wales. We will be running a collection and drop-off service to and from Swansea, Carmarthen and Haverfordwest each half term.
We are happy to arrange individual bespoke tours for families, on a pre-booked system. Our Open Days and bespoke tours are excellent opportunities to meet the Heads and other key staff whilst still observing social distancing and other safety guidelines.
We are truly committed to supporting HM Armed Forces families wherever possible. Providing they are eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance, our service families are guaranteed to pay 10% of their child’s boarding fees, costing around £1,000 a term.
