Acclaimed speaker will deliver talk on science, philosophy and religion

March 4, 2022

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are hosting an evening with an internationally renowned speaker on the relations of science, philosophy and religion.
Professor John Lennox will deliver a talk on Can Science Explain Everything? in the main hall at Monmouth School for Girls on Wednesday 16th March from 7pm to 8.15pm.
He is a Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University (emeritus) and has written numerous books exploring the relationship between science and Christianity.
Professor Lennox is mentioned in the Christian film God’s Not Dead, where his analysis of a comment by Stephen Hawking about the creation of the Universe, is noted.
He trained as a pure mathematician and scientist, while as a young Christian student at Cambridge he was mentored by Narnia author, C.S. Lewis.
Professor Lennox holds five degrees in mathematics and science from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, with an additional degree in Bioethics. He taught for many years in the Mathematics Institute at Cardiff University.
He has an ability to distil his wide knowledge into a comprehensible and clear presentation of ideas.
The evening with Professor Lennox is open to all members of the Monmouth community and it will include a short question-and-answer session.
After Professor Lennox’s address, soft drinks will be available in the Garden Room at Monmouth School for Girls, should people wish to buy a copy of his book.
“A wonderful opportunity has arisen for our schools to host Professor Lennox,” said the Chaplain of Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, Reverend Clifford Swartz.
“Professor Lennox will be interviewed with an opportunity for members of the audience to pose questions.
“This event is being offered by the schools in co-operation with local churches interested in engaging with the ideas of interest to many.”
Admission is free and parking will be available in the lower car park at Monmouth School for Girls, or on the Hereford Road.
