The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers

Our founder, William Jones, was a great believer in the Puritan ethic of ‘giving back to society’ and the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are testament to this philosophy. We have a tremendous sense of community and are proud that we have been on the same site for more than 400 years.

William Jones, our founder in 1614, grew up in Monmouth and became fond of the town.  A haberdasher by trade, he eventually became a very successful member of The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers.

The generous bequest of William Jones has underpinned our development and enables us to keep our fees extremely competitive.

Unlike many independent schools, we prosper considerably from the charitable support of our founder and the Haberdashers’ Company.

The Haberdashers’ Company is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London. Education is of prime importance to the Haberdashers’ Company and today there are more than 12,000 children and young people in the Haberdashers’ family of schools that benefit from the relationship.

The availability of our scholarships and bursaries scheme ensures that as many of our pupils as possible can benefit from the wide range of opportunities here. We prepare our boys and girls to take their place among the nation’s elite, but we are not an elitist institution.

The Haberdashers’ Company supports pupils, past and present, as they progress through their educational and professional journey, which offers pupils in the Haberdashers’ schools something truly unique.

The Haberdashers’ advantage

There’s more to a Haberdashers’ education than what happens inside the classroom. We go the extra mile to ensure that each of our pupils is prepared and equipped for life beyond school.

The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers generously provide support for our pupils by contributing to enrichment activities and subsidised travel opportunities, as well as funding annual student prizes. Steeped in tradition, a Haberdashers’ education is so much more than teaching and learning, with every student member becoming a lifetime member of the Haberdasher family where they benefit from unrivalled networking and support opportunities through our Alumni Association.

The Haberdashers Company funds specialist teaching in Music and in Sport to enable our students to excel in these areas and there are competitions across the Haberdashers’ schools, where students can compete for prizes.

Haberdashers’ opportunities include:

  • All pupils visit the prestigious Haberdashers’ Hall
  • Scholarships available for university courses and apprenticeships
  • Livery Academy Awards and business mentors
  • Participation in events like the Lord Mayor’s Show
